The Census Bureau recently released data from their American Community Survey (ACS) for 2022, and some interesting numbers pop out in Santa Clara County. For example, 62% of households are single family homes, and 60% of housing units were constructed prior to 1980.
An astounding 41% of the county’s residents are foreign born, and 55% speak a language other than English at home, making this one of the most diverse communities in the country — and the world.

There’s a day every September when the Bay Area dress code shifts from summer dresses to cozy sweaters, and we got there a little earlier than expected this year. But you won’t find me complaining. At the beginning of the month, the California Department of Food and Agriculture announced a quarantine on homegrown fruit and vegetables in a 112-square-mile area of Santa Clara County — including Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Los Altos — in an effort to stop the spread of fruit flies. What are the must-have items you can’t live without when it comes to buying a new home?
For me, it’s all about space. I need a big back yard for hosting BBQ parties and large gatherings. The house itself should have a spacious open floor plan to accommodate indoor celebrations and family events. And of course, I need enough closet and storage space to fit my wardrobe and accessories!
I’m what you might call a “car guy” and a DIY tool man, so a big, wide, two-car garage is at the top of my wish list. A spacious kitchen is also a priority, for all those nights we spend experimenting with new recipes and breaking bread. And a well-insulated home can help save on heating and cooling costs.
