Rich in opportunity, culture, and sunshine, Cupertino is as progressive and diverse as its Silicon Valley surroundings. The city’s renown as a center of innovation far surpasses its moderate size of approximately 60,000 residents. Located on the western edge of Santa Clara Valley, against the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Cupertino is 42 miles south of San Francisco.

Around the world, Cupertino is famous as the home of high-tech giant Apple Inc. To the locals, it’s known as a city with excellent public schools and close-knit neighborhoods. That’s part of what makes Cupertino a desirable address for a highly educated and culturally diverse population. More than 60 percent of residents 25 years or older hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, and more than 40 percent were born outside of the United States.

CUPERTINO BY THE NUMBERS

#PIONEERSPIRIT

Pioneers defined the City’s heritage and continue to define its future. Thus, the conquistador’s helmet on the City’s seal symbolizes not only the Spanish explorers in the 18th century, but also settlers from other parts of the U.S. and the world in the 19th century, as well as technology visionaries in the 20th and 21st century.

#AnAppForThat

The Mobile 95014 app offers residents and visitors the latest on Cupertino news and events as well as information about local parks, schools, and recreation offerings. Users can sign up for street sweeping notifications, contact their council members, and learn about local restaurants. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

Where to Go: Chic’s Picks

Rancho San Antonio Preserve & County Park – Rancho San Antonio features over 23 miles of hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails. The 3,988-acre open space preserve, combined with an adjoining 165-acre county park, offers visitors a unique experience with a sampling of diverse environments, interesting cultural history, and a variety of activities.

Ridge Vineyards – Though born in the early sixties to the post-Prohibition world of modern California winemaking, Ridge relies on nature and tradition rather than technology. Their “pre-industrial” approach is straightforward: find intense, flavorful grapes; intrude upon the process only when necessary; draw the fruit’s distinctive character and richness into the wine.

Apple Park Visitor Center – Steps away from the Apple “spaceship” is a special space created just for visitors. An architectural extension of the private campus, the Apple Park Visitor Center offers a place to explore, shop, eat, and attend info sessions.

WHAT TO EAT, DRINK & HANG

Uzumakiya Udon Izakaya – Not your typical udon spot, this trending local hot spot serves up ramen, udon, tempura, and all of your traditional Japanese favorites with the flair and innovation of Cupertino! Be sure to check their hours and order ahead to avoid a wait.

Golden Palace Dim Sum – Okay, technically it’s in San José, but who cares when it tastes this good. A friend turned us on to this spot that specializes in authentic dim sum that eats like comfort food. And don’t forget to hit up TP Tea next door for the best boba in town!

Oren’s Hummus – A technologist with 4 successful start-ups under his belt, Oren Dobronsky was drawn to the Silicon Valley, but one thing was missing: a big plate of creamy Hummus – with fresh pita & mediterranean salads – just like back home in Tel Aviv. With the help of his wife Nancy, an experienced restaurateur, he opened Oren’s Hummus, an authentic Israeli restaurant.

Coconut Fish Cafe – Coconut's opened in 2009 in Maui, Hawaii, and just expanded to Cupertino. Lucky us! They have quickly become a local favorite, with family-friendly atmosphere, custom surfboard tables, exceptional food, healthy food choices, and aloha culture.
