Chic vs. Geek: Who's up for a pool party?

It’s only April, but all this warm weather offers an opportunity to awaken the Sleeping Beauty of your backyard pool!

CHIC (PEARL)

Pools have become a popular and nearly essential feature for single family homes during the pandemic while so many of us are sheltered in place. About a month ago, we had a client who sold his old home and moved into a bigger model in the Santa Teresa area of South San José. He recently asked me what he should do with a vinyl pool at the new home that has not been functional for a long time. I gave him three options:

  1. Keep the pool and clean it up in time for Summer;

  2. Upgrade to a fiberglass pool, or

  3. Remodel with concrete for a more permanent fixture!

You can learn about the pros and cons of each option here. Need a good contractor? Contact us for referrals!

GEEK (KEVIN)

The Summer heat is arriving early this year, so it’s time to check on your pool and get started on annual maintenance. Keeping the pool clean, clear, and balanced protects you and your family from contaminants and pollutants. It also helps you avoid costly hardware repairs due to corrosion or mineral build-up, and helps your pool last longer.

Keeping pool surfaces in good repair and clear of algae, mold, and debris will help keep your whole family clean and safe.

Having a functioning filter system is also crucial for avoiding a cloudy, polluted, and unswimmable mess. Skimmers and returns are just like your veins and arteries. It’s important to keep them in clean working condition!
