Chic’s Pick: The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse

We had a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner at The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse courtesy of Executive Chef Pratik Mungre. A delightfully smoky Old Fashioned cocktail paired nicely with Japanese wagyu beef that literally melts in your mouth.

Thanks to the clients who gave us a gift card to try it out. We highly recommend a visit with your special someone. And don’t forget dessert!

Valentine’s Day Spending Surge

According to a survey by WalletHub, Valentine’s Day spending is expected to reach $25.8 billion in the U.S. this year, or about $185.81 per person choosing to celebrate the holiday.

Meanwhile, 46% of Americans say inflation is affecting their Valentine’s Day plans, and 24% don’t expect their valentine to spend any money on a gift this year. But another 45% expect their valentine to spend at least $50.

So what gives? Get more numbers.

Will you be our Valentine?

Whether it’s giving gifts or acts of service or just spending quality time, we all embrace each other differently. So what’s your love language?

CHIC (Pearl)

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a great time with someone you love. Sometimes a little adventure goes a long way. I like wandering off the beaten path and exploring the road less traveled. And I love new experiences that become old habits, like that restaurant at the top of a hill that you never knew existed and now can’t live without. Maybe we’ll go there for a Valentine’s dinner.

Everything costs money, and even the best things in life aren’t free, no matter what the song says. If you’re going to do anything for your special someone, you may as well throw down. A weekend escape to a coastal retreat complete with spa days and bubble baths will set you back a few bucks, but the relaxation and rewards it buys can be priceless. So don’t be afraid to spend a little green to show your love.

Love is in the air!

While we might agree to disagree on a few things – okay, a lot of things – we decided to create a meal together to kick off our Valentine’s Week.

As usual, I skipped straight to dessert! But because baking is not my forte, I enlisted a friend to help craft these beautiful red velvet cupcakes. And we shared the love of eating the product to avoid a sugar high! Want to try at home? Here’s the recipe for the cupcakes and frosting.

While Pearl got her bake on, I was busy prepping our main course: smoked pulled pork BBQ. There truly is nothing like this tender, juicy goodness, especially piled up on a platter and paired with homemade margaritas including limes from our yard. Learn to do your own smoking.
