City Limits

Surrounded by Willow Glen to the north, Campbell to the west, and Los Gatos and the Almaden Valley to the south, the Cambrian neighborhood of San José is a small enclave of single-family homes, condos, and townhomes, with high-rated schools and plenty of retail shopping options within a short distance. It is predominantly a bedroom community, but there is plenty of nightlife and activity just a short Lyft – or bike – ride away.

Cambrian is a good fit for commuters, with easy access to multiple freeways, While it’s not the best for public transportation outside of the VTA bus network, you can catch a light rail train in Campbell that will take you to Downtown San José and beyond. The area is served by one of the newest branches in the San José Library system, and Houge Park is dog friendly!

SAN JOSé By the Numbers

#HeadOfTheClasS

The Cambrian School District serves approximately 3,200 students in grades K-8, and all five of the district's schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools!

#SenseOfPlace

First opened in the 1950s, Cambrian Park Plaza is the heart of the Cambrian neighborhood and a tribute to another era of San José’s history. It will soon be redeveloped into a new mixed-use retail, office, and residential project. (More below)

Where to go

Cambrian Park Plaza – Located at the intersection of Camden Avenue and Union Avenue on approximately 17 acres, the Cambrian Park Plaza Shopping Center was originally built in the 1950s and currently includes tenants such as Dollar Tree, BevMo! and Roundtable Pizza. A local developer is engaging with the community about a plan to redevelop the property.

Old Almaden Winery – When it was established in 1852, the Old Almaden Winery was the oldest winery in California.  The winery is no longer in operation, and what remains of the property have been converted into a public park. The site is designated as a California Historical Landmark.

Celebrate Cambrian Festival – The Celebrate Cambrian Festival is a family-oriented event sponsored by the City of San José and supported by an army of volunteers. The festival showcases local restaurants, live entertainment, a community resource fair, children’s activities and games, a rock climbing wall, a beer and wine garden, and more. Save the date for this signature San José event!

WHERE TO EAT & DRINK – FAMILY STYLE!

Armadillo Willy's BBQ - Camden Ave. Location – Locally owned, Texas inspired, wood-fired BBQ is the name of the game at this neighborhood staple, which opened more than 30 years ago.

Al Castello Ristorante – This is a great spot for authentic Italian cuisine at prices that won’t blow your family budget. And don’t forget the cannoli!

Chuck E. Cheese – Whether you’re planning a birthday party or craving pizza and fun activities for kids, Chuck E. Cheese’s family fun center is the place to be!
